Senior PHP Developer
Metadata Solutions, a leading Vietnam-based web and mobile development agency, is seeking a Senior PHP Developer to join their remote team. This full-time, remote role offers a competitive compensation package and the opportunity to work closely with international teams. The developer will collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and engineers within an Agile environment to design robust back-end architecture, optimize database performance, and deliver high-quality code. You’ll also be expected to contribute to sprint commitments and mentor teammates, while proactively applying AI-assisted code tools such as ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot throughout the software development life cycle. Daily working hours are 9 PM to 3 AM (GMT+8), Monday to Friday, with two additional flexible hours to complete an 8-hour workday.
Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of PHP development experience, particularly with tools such as Laravel, PostgreSQL, MySQL, JavaScript, API development, AWS, and testing frameworks. A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or Engineering is required, along with strong English communication skills. Knowledge of system design, Git, Jira, and an understanding of best practices in database and code architecture is also essential. Self-motivated engineers who are proactive problem-solvers and comfortable working independently in a remote environment will thrive in this position.
The interview includes a live code and system design session, followed by a technical round with the U.S.-based client, and a final round focused on cultural fit and teamwork. Responsibilities
- Find, propose, and solve technical problems by working closely with Agile scrum masters, UX, product managers, and remote teams.
- Review and correct code for quality and design.
- Manage the delicate balance between implementation complexity, time to market, and scalability and resiliency.
- Design high-performance database schema and code architecture.
- Empower remote teams to deliver stable, high-performing, and reliable code. This requires regular interactions with remote teams in the mornings.
- Contribute significantly to sprints, meet sprint deadlines, help other team members with their sprint commitments and take the lead on urgent tasks.
- Work independently, have strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrate self-motivation in a remote work environment.
- Have been comfortably using AI assistant tools in the SDLC process for at least 50% of the work for at least 3 months (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, Cursor)

Qualifications
- Excellent spoken English skills with clear accent
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
- Knowledge about different architects and system design
- Strong knowledge and understanding of PHP, Laravel, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Unit Test, Integration Test, API test, JavaScript, Git, Jira, API development, and Amazon web services. (from 5 years of experience)
- Working knowledge of database and code architecture best practices
- Ability to work independently and proactively to solve problems.
- Take self-initiatives to learn more and integrate AI tools in every aspect of the work (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, Cursor)
Interview Process
- Round 1: Initial Interview Length: 30 - 45 mins: Live code + Technical & System Design questions
- Round 2: Technical interview with the US company, similar to Round 1 but more complicated. We’ll hold a 15-minute preparatory meeting beforehand so that you can perform well and achieve your targets. (Length: 30-45 mins)
- Final Round: Company culture interview with the US company (15-30 mins), mainly asking questions related to your behavior and problem-solving skills when you co-work with the team.
