SEO Specialist
Join a leading Melbourne-based agency as part of a remote, execution-focused SEO team. In this contract role, you'll collaborate closely with the Head of SEO and onshore colleagues, taking independent ownership over technical audits, reporting, keyword research, content briefs, and link-building for diverse client campaigns. This non-client-facing position features a hands-on workload where your analytical skills and attention to detail shape client success. You'll enjoy the flexibility of remote work and opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic, high-output environment.
Applicants should possess 2+ years’ hands-on SEO experience, advanced use of Screaming Frog, SEMrush, Ahrefs, GA4, GSC, and Looker Studio, and a proven track record in technical, content, and off-page SEO. Experience in agency settings, autonomy in task execution, and strong analytical abilities are essential, as is expertise in local SEO and outreach. Bonus points for backgrounds with e-commerce, lead generation, international SEO, or previous remote collaboration.
This is a remote position.
The Role
We are hiring an SEO Specialist to join our Melbourne-based SEO team in a remote, execution-focused capacity. You will work closely with the Head of SEO and the wider onshore team, taking ownership of the analytical, technical, and research work that underpins our client campaigns.
This is not a client-facing position. It is a hands-on, delivery role where your output directly shapes the quality of the strategies we present and the results we achieve. We need someone who can operate with a high degree of independence: you will receive clear direction and feedback, but we expect you to run with the work, think critically, and flag opportunities or issues before being asked. To be direct: we are looking for someone with genuine depth in SEO. If you can confidently handle technical audits, produce insightful reporting, and deliver polished content briefs and keyword strategies with minimal hand-holding, this role will be rewarding and full of growth. We want to place real execution responsibility on your shoulders, not just assign basic tasks, so the stronger your skill set, the more impactful and autonomous your role will become.
What You Will Be Doing
1. Reporting & Insights
• Compile and maintain monthly client reports across GA4, GSC, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Looker Studio.
• Go beyond surface-level commentary. We expect genuine insights: not just “traffic is up 12%”, but the reasoning behind it. What pages drove the change? Was it seasonal, algorithmic, or the result of our work? What should the client know, and what should we action next
2. Technical SEO
• Perform comprehensive technical audits covering crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, hreflang, mobile usability, structured data, and site architecture.
• Prepare on-page optimization recommendations: meta tags, heading hierarchy, internal linking, schema markup, and content refresh priorities.
3. Keyword Research & Content
• Conduct thorough keyword research and clustering, including long-tail, prompt-based, and intent- driven queries.
• Build detailed content briefs grounded in search data, competitor analysis, and SEO best practices.
• Perform competitor analysis across direct competitors, aggregators, and marketplaces to identify content and technical gaps.
4. Link Building & Outreach
• Support and, where possible, lead outreach and link-building campaigns: prospecting, vetting domains, crafting outreach emails, and tracking placements.
• Assist with citation building and local SEO activities including Google Business Profile management and local landing page optimisation.
5. General
• Contribute to any additional SEO work streams as needed, including ad-hoc research, data pulls, and process improvements.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
• 2+ years of hands-on SEO experience spanning technical, on-page, content, and off-page disciplines.
• Proven ability to run detailed technical site audits and translate findings into clear, prioritised actions.
• Advanced, daily-driver proficiency with Screaming Frog, SEMrush, Ahrefs, GA4, GSC, and Looker Studio.
• Skilled at building content briefs that are thorough, well-structured, and grounded in data.
• Working knowledge of local SEO: Google Business Profile optimisation, multi-location ranking, and citation management.
• Experience with link building and outreach campaigns (prospecting, outreach, and placement tracking).
Who You Are
• Previous experience in an SEO agency environment, with a clear understanding of the pace, processes, and accountability involved in managing multiple client accounts simultaneously.
• A high level of autonomy in task execution, with the ability to deliver results based on a brief and deadline without requiring constant supervision or follow-up.
• Strong receptiveness to direction and feedback, with the ability to absorb input, implement adjustments, and continuously improve performance.
• Exceptional attention to detail, with a natural avoidance of sloppy data, inconsistent formatting, or superficial analysis.
• A proactive approach to issue identification and resolution, including the ability to detect anomalies such as broken elements or shifts in client traffic and raise them promptly.
• A strong sense of pride in work quality, with a focus on accuracy and excellence rather than simply task completion.
• Strong analytical and data-driven capabilities, including comfort in working with large datasets and deriving meaningful insights.
• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-output environment, while effectively managing competing priorities without compromising quality.
Bonus Points
• Experience working with e-commerce or retail clients.
• Familiarity with lead-generation verticals and conversion-focused SEO.
• Exposure to international or multi-market SEO campaigns.
• Experience working remotely in support of an onshore team in a different time zone.
