You’ve spent the last few years building pipelines, shaping datasets, and answering questions the business didn’t even know how to ask yet. You know the difference between data that exists and data that can actually be trusted.

But too often, you’re stuck working downstream of decisions you didn’t influence.

This role changes that.

A fast-scaling, well-funded fintech is hiring an early Data Engineer to take ownership of how data is modeled, trusted, and used across the business. You’ll join at a point where the foundations are being laid working alongside a Data Platform Engineer but the analytics layer, metrics, and business-facing data products are still yours to define.

From day one, your focus is on turning fragmented data into something meaningful.

You’ll build and evolve transformation layers using dbt, design clean and scalable models in a modern cloud warehouse, and establish the core metrics the business will run on. Working closely with teams across product, finance, operations, and risk, you’ll translate messy real-world questions into structured, reliable datasets and dashboards.

This isn’t just about pipelines.

You’ll shape how teams interact with data, introducing testing, documentation, and quality standards that make outputs trustworthy. You’ll move the business away from ad-hoc queries toward well-defined, reusable data products.

As the company expands across multiple markets, your role evolves with it.

You’ll take full ownership of the analytics layer, enabling self-service data access, automating recurring insights, and helping define governance around data ownership and consistency. Over time, you’ll mentor incoming analysts and play a key role in scaling the data function into a true product-driven capability.

Technically, you’ll be hands-on with SQL and Python, working within a cloud environment (BigQuery or similar), building ELT pipelines, and leveraging tools like dbt and modern BI platforms. Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or streaming data is valuable, but not essential.

This role suits someone who enjoys building from first principles, someone who cares about clean data, clear thinking, and real business impact.
